Valle Pome, Between Rural Tradition and Tailored Details

Hidden among the rolling hills of the Montegrosso d’Asti area, Valle Pome is a historic estate that today finds new life thanks to the calibrated and sensitive intervention of the Milan-based studio Atelierzero. The project unfolds with an overall vision that transforms the ancient manor house into a private residence, while the other buildings—stables, barn, and caretaker’s house—are converted into a scattered agriturismo, maintaining the original character of the place and enhancing its contemporary potential uses.

The protagonist of the first intervention is the Gate House, a two-level building that serves as the entrance point to the estate. Here, the design approach is distinguished by its ability to combine functionality and respect for the context: the interior spaces have been rethought to meet the needs of contemporary living, without sacrificing historical authenticity. On the ground floor, a compact but well-organized living area is developed, where the kitchen—optimized and contained between two elegant marble archways—becomes a central element. A new porthole allows natural light to enter, helping to illuminate the original fireplace as well, reinterpreted with a more contemporary language.

The sleeping area is located on the upper floor, consisting of a bedroom with an en-suite shower and a separate bathroom divided into two distinct areas, to offer greater privacy and comfort. The view over the estate offers a privileged glimpse of the surrounding landscape, emphasizing the direct relationship between the interior and nature.

The use of natural materials—wood, terracotta, stone, and lime plaster—strengthens the connection with the Piedmont territory. The intervention enhances the craftsmanship of building: every surface tells a story of a process, care, a conscious choice, in line with the tailored approach that has always characterized Atelierzero’s work. The color palette, soft and earthy, also recalls the nuances of the hilly landscape, while the facade restored to its original color restores authenticity to the entire building complex.

Valle Pome is not just a restoration project: it is an example of how architecture can rewrite the present without erasing the past, with an approach that integrates building tradition, attention to detail, and sensitivity to the experience of living. An exercise in balance and measure, perfectly rooted in the cultural landscape of rural Piedmont.

Atelierzero

Founded in Milan in 2013, the Atelierzero studio is distinguished by an approach that intertwines traditional craftsmanship and contemporary materials, in search of a balance between form, function, and identity. The founders, Piermattia Cribiori, Stefano Grigoletto, and Alessandro Triulzi, supported by a multidisciplinary team, approach each project as an opportunity to interpret and transform the context, giving shape to measured, experiential spaces deeply connected to human behavior. Research is at the heart of their practice, constantly striving to redefine what it means to live today.
