To mark Milan Design Week 2026, PolyPiù – a leading Italian manufacturer of polycarbonate solutions – has created two installations set up in the streets of the Durini Design District and the spaces at Superstudio Più in Via Tortona.
Luminous Skin stems from the idea that light is not merely illumination, but the first gesture of welcome, capable of shaping people’s perception of space. Ten luminous towers, 4.60 metres high, designed by Studio AMS, punctuate the urban route through the most iconic locations of Milan Design Week.
Polycarbonate thus becomes an active architectural skin: light takes shape, shapes the space and creates recognisable and engaging atmospheres.
For the creation of Luminous Skin, PolyPiù used LightPiù Luxe, which, with its exclusive prismatic finish, refracts light to create evocative luminous effects, making it ideal for prestigious architectural projects both indoors and outdoors.
At the heart of the Tortona Design District, PolyPiù and Studio Marco Piva have created a volumetric structure that transforms polycarbonate into pure structural material: PolyPiù Cathedral is a site-specific installation built across multiple levels that rise upwards. The stepped progression of the structure and the opalescence of the material define a rigorous space, built on the precise balance between translucent mass and usable void.
PanelPiù 500/40 5 opal panels is the true star of the structure. The PanelPiù range, a modular interlocking multi-wall polycarbonate system, offers a clean, modern design thanks to its extruded structure with no visible joints, enhancing the aesthetics of buildings without the use of exposed joint profiles.
