Suite 242 in Hotel De L’ Europe Amsterdam offers an artistic approach to a reinvented environment for people to work, create, meet and reside. This creative workspace hub represents the future direction of offices imagined by D/Dock.
By blending work and leisure, this place offers a combination of hospitality, luxury, social activities and exchange between different individuals or companies.
For Francesco Messori, creative director at D/Dock, this project is an experiment, in which you can explore the spaces in a completely different way. This means taking away the conventional idea of a table, bed or chair. Thus, Suite 242 is an entirely grey environment where the central block of the bathroom creates two rooms connected by two opposite mirrored corridors. Additionally, a silver curtain has covered the room’s entire perimeter, where there is a complete absence of colours or materials.
The two parts of the suite are arranged as yin and yang, where in place of the two dots are two square monoliths. According to the inhabitants’ intentions and mood, they can use the monoliths like a conference table, desk, seat or bed. “People can sleep, make love, eat, work, lounge, meditate and do whatever they want to do”, says Messori.
The bathroom is also an art installation, which reproduces a surprising jungle, like a hidden gem in the green. A wall named ‘Viva la vulva’ shows dozens of sculpted abstract shapes that resemble female genitals.
Finally, a giant wall art piece resembles a contemporary ‘Rosetta Stone’ full of digital pictograms, representing history and the future, as a new universal language archetype.
