Restoration Between Memory and Sustainability in the Venetian Countryside

In the quiet of the Noventa Padovana countryside, an ancient sixteenth-century farmhouse that belonged to the Dondi dall’Orologio family is brought back to life through a restoration project that enhances its historical identity with contemporary sensitivity. The project, signed by Gianni and Tommaso Tommasi of the Architettura Tommasi studio, involved the complete recovery of the main building and the Barchessa, a typical typology of the Venetian rural landscape, maintaining the original structure unchanged and restoring its architectural dignity.

The restoration was based on strict criteria of conservation and green building, favoring natural materials compatible with the original ones. The walls were consolidated thanks to a new sub-foundation, designed to safeguard the historic bricks, while the pink cocciopesto plaster was treated with minimal interventions, without the use of synthetic paints, to maintain the legibility and authenticity of the surfaces.

The interior presents a refined balance between past and present. Spacious rooms, with Venetian floors and hand-nailed antique walnut parquet, accommodate custom-made furniture, modern vintage pieces, and bespoke solutions that engage in dialogue with the historical structure without nostalgia. In the living area, a large decorated fireplace dominates, accompanied by a leather seat that accentuates its evocative value.

One of the most evocative elements of the project is the mezzanine, made accessible by an iron and wood staircase and protected by a beamed roof insulated with wood fiber, a natural and breathable material that guarantees living comfort and air quality. Here, as in the rest of the farmhouse, material is the protagonist: every surface, every construction detail tells a story of care, expertise, and deep respect for the place.

Casale in campagna (Farmhouse in the Countryside) is an opportunity to renovate without erasing, to give new life to a historical artifact while preserving its soul. A project that combines technical rigor, environmental sensitivity, and building culture, contributing to the protection and enhancement of the Venetian landscape.
