In Tils, a small alpine settlement near Bressanone, Casa em – scissione presents itself as a silent and measured presence, capable of deeply dialoguing with the mountain context that hosts it. Designed by the atelier bergmeisterwolf studio, the project fully expresses the studio’s philosophy: an architecture that originates from the landscape, adopting its morphology, rhythm, and materials – and in doing so, contributes to redefining its identity.
The house does not impose itself, but integrates: a continuous concrete base forms the plinth of the building and extends as a retaining wall that structures the space and generates a system of internal courtyards. These spaces, sometimes hidden, sometimes open, foster a layered domestic experience, made of pauses, filters, and visual and tactile relationships with the surroundings.
Above the base, the wooden body develops, assuming reinterpreted archetypal forms in its vertical volume: a broken pitched roof, with overhangs and recesses, creates movement and depth, modulating the light and drawing changing shadows along the facades. The materiality of the wood, enhanced by a deep and intense color, defines a volume that seems sculpted by wind and light, in continuity with the texture of the South Tyrolean rural landscape.
The architecture of Casa em is both structural and emotional. Local building tradition is reinterpreted through tailored details and conscious construction choices, which are also echoed in the interiors, where materials, vertical paths, and sequences of rooms and views create dynamic yet always cohesive spatial rhythms. The dwelling is revealed slowly, like a story built of images and perceptions, capable of conveying a sense of profound unity.
Scissione, as the title suggests, is a house that divides to recompose, that separates spaces to build more intense relationships between interior and exterior, between the built body and the landscape. It is a house that thinks and acts beyond the volume, transforming the construction into a place of experience.
atelier bergmeisterwolf
With offices in Bressanone and Rosenheim, the atelier bergmeisterwolf studio, founded by Gerd Bergmeister and Michaela Wolf, is among the most established realities of contemporary architecture in South Tyrol. Their work is distinguished by the ability to translate the characteristics of the landscape and local traditions into architectures with a strong poetic and formal impact. The project always originates from careful listening to the place and develops as an artisanal process, where every detail is part of a broader idea of space, material, and identity.
