Carroll Gardens Townhouse

Barker Associates Architecture Office (BAAO) recently finished the renovations and extension of a townhouse in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The project was done for a family of four, a husband and wife and their two daughters.
The finishes feature lots of vibrant color, pattern, texture, and cozy nooks. A modern steel and wood staircase was added to lead you from the parlor down to the garden. Next to the stairs is a bluestone terrace that surrounds the base of a lush magnolia tree; during planning, the architects made sure it would have enough light and space to thrive once the extension was complete.

On the garden level, a custom pegboard hanging system organizes the family’s outdoor gear. The space also includes a miniature kitchen for entertaining in the garden as well as a felt curtain to divide the space from guests. Most days, it also serves as a home office for the husband.

In the den on the first floor, a custom Bower Studio mirror hangs over the original marble wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen is built from custom lacquer and warm tone fir cabinetry that compliments the rustic pine floors.
The dining room is located in the extension and features a window bench that overlooks the yard.
