A Chalet among the snows

Nestled within the pristine setting of the Monti della Luna, in Cesana Torinese, stands Uno Chalet tra le nevi, an alpine residence that reinterprets mountain tradition through an iconic form and an essential architectural language. The project, designed by Antonio Perrone, with Erica Bruno and Arianna Testa, originates from the transformation of a pre-existing rustic building, at the request of a couple of mountain enthusiasts who desired a contemporary, functional, and landscape-integrated retreat.

The building’s volume develops from a strong and recognizable formal gesture: a structure that evokes the archetypal shape of a tent, where the sloping roof pitches merge with the side walls, recalling the profile of the surrounding mountains. This choice not only aesthetically characterizes the project but also allows for optimal management of solar radiation thanks to the integration of photovoltaic panels and roof windows.

The dwelling is articulated over three levels: the basement houses a garage, a sky-room, a small wellness area, and a windowless bathroom; the ground floor accommodates a spacious living area with a mezzanine, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms with windows; the upper floor hosts the master room with a private bathroom and access, via a ladder, to a charming alcove in the attic. The spaces are fluid, welcoming, and designed to experience the mountains in every season, with a constant dialogue between interior and exterior.

The absolute protagonist of the project is thermo-treated larch, used in both the structure and the interior and exterior cladding. This material, chosen for its resistance and visual warmth, is complemented by inserts of metal, glass, and technical fabrics, which contribute to defining an intimate, yet at the same time refined atmosphere.

The large openings on the main facades allow for complete immersion in the landscape, enhancing natural light and the direct connection with the environment. A small refuge that speaks the language of the place, but does so with new accents, drawing a balance between formal innovation and domestic warmth.
