Abitzai Project comes to life in the heart of Rome as a place where matter, light and culture merge into a single experience. Opened on 13 November, this new space is a creative laboratory open to architects, designers and enthusiasts, an environment where architecture is not simply a formal representation but becomes a system of relationships, stimuli and exchanges. The surfaces on display tell their story through authentic textures, while the light – deeply Mediterranean in its sensibility and intention – passes through the materials, conveying an idea of contemporary roots and identity.
The project is the brainchild of Claudia Mazohl, founder of the Abitzai brand, which since 2020 has been interpreting Italian style through a dialogue between craftsmanship, creativity and territory. The birth of Abitzai Project represents a natural evolution of this journey, a place where not only products are exhibited but a perspective on design and how to achieve it is shared. For Mazohl, the connection with the land of origin is now an essential value for restoring authenticity to inhabited spaces; at the same time, the involvement of partners becomes an integral part of the story, a choral contribution that transforms collaboration into a shared visual language.
The space, approximately 300 square metres spread over two floors in Via Muzio Clementi, overlooks the street with two large windows that introduce visitors to the exhibition. The ground floor welcomes visitors into an environment designed to create a dialogue between materials, colours and geometries in a succession of elegant atmospheres. The lower level, which is larger and more immersive, is designed to host workshops, meetings and events: a true Roman home for those who want to experiment, design, imagine and play with the infinite possibilities of contemporary design.
Designed by Studio Tanzi Architecture, Abitzai Project focuses on the brand’s ceramics, which express the essence of the Mediterranean region through collections such as Origini, created by designer Celestino Sanna. Alongside these, the exhibition is enriched by the presence of some of the most important Italian interior design brands, involved in a material and sensory dialogue that embraces furniture, textiles, wood, lighting, taps and textile art.
The furnishings by Plinio il Giovane reflect a tradition of sustainable and timeless manufacturing, the fabrics by Dino Zoli Textile showcase research into natural fibres and recycled materials, while the flooring by Listone Giordano expresses the culture of wood as a central element of interior design. Sforzin Illuminazione’s solutions introduce a contemporary interpretation of light, Fima – Carlo Frattini mixers combine functionality and beauty in a balance of design harmony, and Mariantonia Urru’s carpets transform Sardinian tradition into highly refined textile works through a creative process shared with designers.
Abitzai Project thus presents itself as an open ecosystem, a place where materials become inspiration and design is nourished by continuous exchange. It is a space that celebrates contemporary Mediterranean design culture and builds bridges between manufacturers, artisans, architects and designers, creating an experience in which beauty takes shape through relationship and sharing.
