Terre del Nord by SIMAS: Nordic materials, symbols and inspirations

Restoring ceramics to its most authentic, almost archaic dimension, bringing it back into direct dialogue with nature and matter: this is the vision that guides Massimiliano Braconi in designing the new TERRE DEL NORD collection for SIMAS. The inspiration comes from Nordic landscapes, suspended between light mists, damp clays and skies that dissolve into the haze. Silent and profound suggestions that translate into objects capable of evoking emotions through form, surface and mark.

A distinctive feature of the collection are the three incisions that run across each washbasin, essential marks that serve a symbolic rather than decorative function. These marks create a coherent narrative between the different pieces, becoming the common thread of a series of six washbasins that share soft surfaces and calibrated volumes. The range includes two bowls, one round with a diameter of 45 centimetres and one oval with a generous size of 70 centimetres, round washbasins available in different heights, a tall version reminiscent of the traditional basin (40cmxH45cm), a freestanding model (45cmxH80cm) that can be used either in the centre of the room or against a wall, and a cylindrical column designed to accommodate the round variants or the bowl. The shapes and proportions are designed to adapt to different contexts, from smaller bathrooms to larger, more spectacular spaces, expanding the compositional and architectural possibilities.

Materiality takes centre stage. The surfaces appeal to the eye and touch with a velvety, intense presence, enhanced by SIMAS’ colour palette, which combines matt and glossy finishes with deep, earthy tones. The result is a balance between formal simplicity and sculptural strength, in which ceramics become a means of expression capable of blending contemporary design and artisanal tradition.
The project is designed with a modular approach that is open to future developments. Alongside the washbasins, a highly modular bathroom furniture collection is taking shape, featuring open elements and closed storage units, wall-mounted or legged solutions, and customisable chests of drawers with wooden or ceramic fronts in finishes reminiscent of stone, marble, concrete or lacquer.

As Marco Giuliani, the company’s general manager, points out, TERRE DEL NORD fully embodies SIMAS’s identity, reaffirming the value of traditional ceramic sanitary ware and a focus on essential, timeless design. The collection is aimed at a public that is sensitive to contemporary language and attentive to the quality and meaning of objects, comprising architects, interior designers and end users who seek well-designed and reliable environments that are also capable of conveying beauty and emotion in everyday life.
