Domus Contemporanea is an architectural project that reinterprets the structure of the Roman domus in a modern key, organising spaces around three patios to combine conviviality and privacy. The floors designed by Isoplam become a connecting element between architecture and nature, creating a fluid and permeable continuity between interior and exterior.
Architects Marco Contini and Sara Chiari of continiarchitettura have organised the spatial distribution by developing three internal courtyards, each with a specific form and function, designed to encourage a perfect alternation between openness and intimacy. The first patio separates the home from the service spaces (garage and professional rooms); the second, at the centre of the residential area and covered by a large skylight, represents the visual and functional heart of the house. The third, more intimate and private, is reserved for the master bathroom, conceived as a place of psychophysical regeneration, in direct dialogue with nature.
Covering 690 square metres, in Monticelli Terme, at the foot of the Parma hills, the house establishes a strong bond with the surrounding landscape. The elevations alternate compact wall surfaces with large full-height windows, designed to amplify the visual and physical relationship with the garden. The material palette is inspired by nature: washed plasters, local stone, larch wood ceilings and Isoplam Deco Nuvolato flooring, a continuous cement-based cladding that reinforces this dialogue between architecture and environment.
Deco Nuvolato is the new Isoplam cladding designed for outdoor environments, capable of creating delicate plays of colour that fade from lighter to darker shades, contributing to a dynamic and elegant visual effect. In addition to aesthetics, it offers high technical performance: it is wear-resistant, impact-resistant, water-repellent, stain-resistant, oil-resistant and dust-proof, making it ideal for environments with high humidity or subject to high stress, such as bathrooms and outdoor spaces. Its technical performance makes it ideal for residential contexts and highly frequented public spaces: terraces, courtyards, squares, pedestrian paths, leisure centres and even swimming pool edges. The non-slip surface achieves safety ratings up to R13, guaranteeing stability and protection even in the presence of water.
For the interior, the colour Clay was chosen, a warm shade that perfectly complements the dark wood furnishings, leather sofas and the selection of artwork and decorative objects in classic and vintage style. On the exterior, on the other hand, the Deco Nuvolato Grip variant was used in the delicate Cipria shade, a combed finish designed for maximum strength and safety. With a limited thickness of only 8 cm, it combines material expressiveness, durability and non-slip safety. Composed of cement, spheroidal quartz, additives and iron oxides, it has a combed texture created by trowel processing on fresh concrete, giving a vibrant, irregular surface that refracts light and dialogues with the architectural context.
Thanks to its visual continuity and the shaded effect that enhances natural light, Deco Nuvolato reflects the colours and shapes of the outdoor landscape inside the home, accentuating the link between architecture and territory. A cladding that represents the ideal balance between aesthetics, functionality and sustainability.
