Vitrium by Christian Werner for Duravit

Modern, timeless and simple – that’s how my design for Vitrium looked“.

Christian Werner, one of Germany’s top interior designers, thus describes the collection of washbasins combined with console and vanity units designed for Duravit.
Vitrium combines interesting materials from both an aesthetic and tactile point of view: the washbasins are made of the mineral composite DuroCast UltraResist, while the console base units, on the other hand, have a refined metal frame and fronts in a choice of backlit glass or various bilaminates. The result is a natural-looking ensemble that radiates comfort. “The starting point for this design idea was the constant questioning of normal habits. My aim with Vitrium was to redefine bathroom design and the routines associated with it” says Christian Werner. With soft colours and tactile surfaces, Vitrium creates an atmosphere of well-being, which can be emphasised with furniture, fabrics such as curtains and carpets, as well as decorative accessories.

Vitrium by Duravit presents a minimalist design that combines different geometries: a base unit with a linear console is combined with a round basin or a rectangular c-bonded washbasin. The most striking feature of the collection is the reduced depth of the furniture with projecting basin, which is why the design is also suitable for compact bathrooms.
The furniture, made of PEFC-certified wood (PEFC/04-31-2357), is complemented by rectangular and round mirrors in the same design language, as well as a mirror cabinet, which is also available in a built-in version, all with integrated LED lighting. “Vitrium embodies sensual rituals in the bathroom and defines the complex picture of sophisticated, modern bathroom culture,” is how the designer describes his concept.

With Vitrium, Duravit presents washbasins made of mineral composite for the first time. The DuroCast UltraResist, developed in-house by Duravit and produced in its Bischwiller factory in France, has an extremely elegant appearance with its matt surface and allows for a precise design language. Thanks to an additional lacquer layer, it also has properties that are particularly advantageous in the bathroom: DuroCast UltraResist is easy to clean thanks to its non-porous surface and relatively insensitive to scratches and dirt.

The furniture in the collection features refined metal frames in White and Anthracite. They are available in two different versions. With translucent, backlit Parsol glass fronts, which make the furniture appear light and almost floating like a glass cabinet. These are complemented by bilaminate fronts in a total of eight different finishes, demonstrating the collection’s high degree of customisation. A horizontal strip handle, integrated in the metal frame, completes the shallow cabinet with a pull-out element. A second drawer on the inside offers various compartments for small items.
