“Tobia Scarpa: Design and Taste of the Italian Table” edited by Cintya Concari and Roberto Marcatti and realised in collaboration with the Associazione Mercatino del Gusto is a celebratory volume dedicated to the figure of the famous designer Tobia Scarpa.
The book recounts, interpreting the designer’s work, the design of living space and everything that most deeply penetrates our daily lives through objects, environments and colours that marry the culture of food.
The volume “Tobia Scarpa: design and taste of the Italian table” narrates through the objects on public display the paradigms that have always influenced the fertile design activity of architect Scarpa, considered among the top 10 architects in the world of the 20th century according to an international ranking, starting in this specific case, from the world of the dining table as a true “domestic and relational theatre”.
A narrative that combines the synthesis of the two most important assets of the Italian system, the culture of food and the culture of design, which represent two essential values to be protected and encouraged, together with quality tourism promotion.
Through the description and narration of the products for the table designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the book narrates “phenomena and habits, social behaviours that interact on an equal footing with design, culture, art, economy, landscape, nature and territoriality”, reminding us that the origins of civilisations and their alternation always have today’s man as their boundary.
The publication of the volume coincided with the realisation of the exhibition ‘Tobia Scarpa: design and taste of the Italian table’ which opened in Maglie on 1 August 2023 in conjunction with the XXIV edition of the Mercatino del Gusto.
The volume will have to be part of the series “art and architecture at the table – the design of food and wine” by SFERA EDIZIONI – series in which the volume “A tavola con Gio Ponti. The angels set the table’.
The publication, due to its value and relevance, was included in the Editorial Line of the Regional Council of Puglia.
