The studio FABRIC Integrated Architecture has realised the project “The Village“, an urban tourist sports village of about 11,000 square metres with swimming pools, large green areas, a gymnasium open all year round, a bar and restaurant, which complete and enhance the new Cittadella dello Sport in Sesto San Giovanni.
The currently disused facility has been demolished and replaced by a new complex that will also introduce new commercial spaces.
The summer lido will consist of four areas: a main swimming pool, approximately 1,000 square metres in size, with a semicircular shape, large access steps, surrounded by a solarium park; 6 large “sliding hill” slides; a pool for small children (0-5 years); a spray park with slides, attractions and water games (6-12 years).
The new building, which has 3 floors (one of which is a basement), has been designed to blend in perfectly with the urban context in which it is inserted and with the surrounding nature thanks to its soft and organic lines that recall the shapes of a manta ray lying on the ground.
The outdoor pool is a new pool with a total surface area of approximately 800 square metres and a maximum internal height of 136/140 cm, built by remodelling the existing Olympic-size pool.
The new pool with perimeter overflow can be divided into several areas such as: a relaxation area with hydro-massage jets, an area dedicated to swimming activities and a course area.
The water slides, on the other hand, are accessible from the first floor of the building and are developed within an accessible area with showers and pools with anti-mycotic and the ascent is via an external staircase bordered by hanging greenery. Each slide is equipped with a flat braking zone so that the user stops within the slide channel.
The children’s spray park consists of a wet area of approximately 300 square metres and a water depth of 10/40 cm, with a perimeter overflow.
The changing rooms are located in the basement, divided by gender, and include toilets with toilets and showers.
The choice of materials opted for reinforced concrete for the vertical structure, concrete infills, aluminium and glass for the transparent facades.
