The modern family house

With a skillful interplay of intuition and technique, this two-level apartment has been renovated to become a residence that embodies the language of contemporary design. The renovation of Casa RA, led by the DC|EF studio, has shaped spaces designed to accommodate the daily life of a family of four, where the balance between aesthetics and functionality translates into a fluid and engaging living experience. Like a directed project, every element has been redesigned to celebrate light, continuity, and harmony, transforming the home into a theater of modern life.

A distinctive feature of the renovation is the large panoramic terrace, conceived as a private oasis in the heart of the city. Located on the upper level, the terrace offers a privileged view of the urban skyline and was designed as a multifunctional space for relaxation and socializing. The landscaping design prioritizes the use of evergreen plants, shrubs, and grasses, creating a natural barrier that ensures privacy while enriching the aesthetics of the space. Integrated planters and green walls further emphasize the connection between nature and architecture, transforming the terrace into an exclusive retreat.

The living area represents the core of the home, designed as a spacious and welcoming environment where different functions coexist in perfect harmony. A central element of the design is the bifacial furniture, an architectural solution that both separates and connects different areas of the house. This multifunctional piece serves distinct roles: on one side, it houses the kitchen columns, bookshelves, and TV unit; on the other, it integrates with the entrance area, facilitating a smooth transition between spaces. Visual and functional continuity is further emphasized by integrating the dining area into the open space.

The central kitchen island, a massive stone-effect monolith, serves as both a visual and functional focal point. Its connection with a long piece of furniture along the windowed wall enhances the linear and modern aesthetic of the interiors while creating practical and well-organized spaces.

Attention to detail extends throughout the entire home, with each room personalized to meet the specific needs of its occupants. The children’s and guest bedrooms have been furnished with custom-designed furniture, optimized for space without sacrificing comfort. The master suite, conceived as a private and refined space, includes a spacious walk-in closet and a private bathroom with high-quality finishes.

The metal staircase, strategically placed at the entrance, is not only a functional element but also an architectural detail of great visual impact. Connecting the two levels of the home, the staircase becomes a defining feature of the project, synthesizing modernity and lightness through its minimalist design and high-quality materials.

The upper level of the home is entirely dedicated to the terrace, which serves as a natural extension of the interior spaces. The terrace design, meticulously crafted by the DC|EF studio, aimed to create a flexible and welcoming environment, ideal for both family relaxation and hospitality. The vegetation was carefully chosen to ensure a balance between aesthetics and functionality, while the use of high-quality materials ensures the durability of the architectural elements.

The renovation project completed by DC|EF studio is an exemplary model of how contemporary architecture can meet the needs of urban life in the city of Milan, combining aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. Through an integrated design approach, the two-level home has been transformed into a space that reflects the personality of its inhabitants while enhancing the urban context in which it is located.
