In one of the most artistic streets in the heart of Amsterdam, the professionals of Heyligers Architects, led by Marleen Valstar, have realised a major renovation project of a historic building, formerly home to the Amsterdam School of Photography and now the headquarters of an international personal care company.
The new design of the building is characterised by a predominant use of white, creating a light aesthetic, with an imposing entrance consisting of a black glass and steel exterior structure. Marleen Valstar emphasised the importance of working within the monumental characteristics of the building. Historical elements, such as the restored vaulted and coffered ceilings, were emphasised in order to maintain the historical character of the building.
In order to harmoniously integrate contemporary architectural innovations with classical elements, the designers chose to collaborate with FritsJurgens, who supplied their swing systems, making the doors central elements within the project, rather than marginal components.
Thanks to their technology, quality and functionality, FritsJurgens pivot systems allow the doors to move with elegant, sweeping movements while fully respecting the cultural heritage that the building represents. The minimalist mounting plates require only two 8 mm holes and contribute to the clean aesthetics of any project, integrating perfectly even with underfloor heating systems.
The project in Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Spiegelstraat demonstrated how FritsJurgens pivot hinges can transform a ‘simple’ architectural element into a focal point of innovation and functional design where doors, combined with the FritsJurgens hinge system, are an ideal solution in many projects.
