In an increasingly sustainability-conscious world, Superstudio Maxi in Milan is an emblematic example of how even event “venues” are adopting initiatives to reduce their environmental impact.
The urban regeneration project, combined with environmental redevelopment, consists of an intervention on a former steel mill, in a disused area that represented a “void” in the Barona district.
This complex operation was carried out by architects Laura Scrimieri and Riccardo Hopps, founders of OGB STUDIO, a firm based in Rome and Milan that bases its consulting philosophy on the themes of environmental sustainability and healthiness of environments, on standards recognised worldwide, such as LEED, BREEAM and WELL.
The consultancy firm was one of the first members of the Green Building Council Italy and co-founder of the Lazio Chapter and now boasts membership of the USGBC, United States Green Building Council.
Superstudio Maxi thus became the first event venue in Europe to achieve LEED Gold certification.
“Today, millions of people live, work and study in LEED-certified buildings not only because they improve efficiency, help reduce operating costs and increase market value, but also because they guarantee: comfort, health and wellbeing for the occupants“, emphasises architect Riccardo Hopps, “this is why, for years, OGB STUDIO has been promoting the implementation of ‘certified sustainability’ systems as a guarantee of the quality of the entire design, construction and management process of real estate assets“.
A lasting commitment exemplified by the curriculum vitae of OGB STUDIO itself, which in the last eight years has been involved, in the role of consultant to the owner or general contractor, in the most important development and redevelopment initiatives in Italy’s most prestigious locations.
