Porto Urbano

Within the Murazzi area, one of the most iconic places in Turin, the lamatilde design studio signs the concept and interior design of Porto Urbano, an unprecedented restaurant project.
After more than ten years of closure of this area, the design of Porto Urbano has led to the reopening of six of the eleven arcades, giving back to the city a place dedicated to food&beverage and events, with a dehors overlooking the Po river.

With respect for the historicity and symbolic value of the place, lamatilde opted for a conservative architectural project in collaboration with the Superintendency and a modern but essential layout, with the aim of keeping the identity of the spaces intact and recovering some of the pre-existing elements. The project was developed with the participation of EDIT Brewing – an important craft brewery in Turin.
The result is the restoration of the Murazzi area as a social and cultural landmark of the city, through a project that respects the historicity of the envelope but is cut with an extremely contemporary style.

The interiors of Porto Urbano are developed over a single area of 510 square metres, which can be divided if necessary, between a venue and a space for private events thanks to a system of movable partitions with folding opening, providing a versatile and fluid structure.
Of the historical architecture, in addition to the perimeter with bricks and exposed arches, the imposing wooden access doors and the mezzanines, now used as an operational and technical area for staff, have been preserved. The kitchen has been placed on the upper floor: a functional choice not only to improve flow and service management, but also to protect the equipment from flooding.
