An apartment in Milan, in a 1950s building on the corner of two streets. The original pentagonal plan opens its main front to a wide view on two Gio Ponti’s architectures: the Pirelli skyscraper and the Montedoria Palace.
The house, thanks to the large glazed surfaces, is a large urban loggia and projects itself like a portico onto the public space. The interior is a continuous sequence of spaces, marked by the “presence” of two dividers that like “totems” influence the space and the furnishings that gravitate around it.
The first one is a monolith covered with klinker tiles, the last remnant of the cladding of the Montedoria Palace which is right in front of it. The second in Macassar ebony recalls the large dividing walls in exotic woods of some projects by Mies Van Der Rohe. The floor is a continuous mantle of grit and fragments of marble. It crosses all the rooms of the house and generates union and specificity thanks to the “pictures” that emerge from the pictorial configurations of the inserts.
