Novacolor at Fuorisalone 2026 with “The Light Between”

As part of Fuorisalone 2026, Novacolor presents “The Light Between”, a signature collection that explores the relationship between light and matter as a generative element of architectural perception. The project emerges within an edition in which Milan reaffirms itself as a widespread laboratory of design experimentation and focuses on what normally escapes the gaze: the intermediate space where light passes through surfaces and alters their nature, transforming the material into a sensitive language. The collection takes shape in the Novacolor showroom in Brera, reinterpreted for the occasion by architect Michael Vincent Uy, who transforms it into an immersive environment where matter is not simply displayed, but activated through light.

The entire project is based on a vision in which lighting does not play a secondary role, but becomes the primary device through which the space is constructed and perceived. Light seeps into the surfaces, highlighting their irregularities, amplifying their depth and revealing details that would otherwise be imperceptible, transforming imperfection into aesthetic and design value. The showroom thus takes on a suspended, almost museum-like dimension, in which every variation in light helps to redefine the relationship between full and empty, between material and perception, guiding the visitor through a slow and progressive experience.

It is against this backdrop that the Signature Collection 2026 unfolds, comprising six material interpretations that explore the various ways in which light interacts with surfaces. Radiance creates a diffused, vibrant luminosity that seems to emanate directly from the material, whilst Gleam captures fleeting flashes that emerge like sudden revelations within the visual space. Hive translates texture into a pattern of reliefs that interact with light to generate perceptual depth, whilst Interlude focuses on suspension, on the moment when light filters through and brings to the surface what remains hidden. Weave interprets the material as an engraved weave, in which every mark becomes a luminous path, whilst Facet entrusts geometric planes with the task of reflecting light in a changing and dynamic manner.

Within the showroom, light becomes the unifying thread that brings these diverse material expressions together, constructing a continuous narrative in which the surface is never static but constantly redefined by observation. The photographic project curated by Matteo Imbriani, with creative direction by Freedot and styling by Studio Salaris, amplifies this relationship, visually rendering the encounter between light and material as the central element of the entire collection.

The Brera space thus takes the form of a perceptual device in which colour recedes to make way for the material and its response to light. The surfaces become sensitive fields, capable of reacting to the lighting and shaping the overall atmosphere of the space, whilst furnishings – such as the Medea chairs reinterpreted in Metallo_Fuso – also play a part in this perceptual transformation. The result is a space in which every element contributes to defining a balanced harmony between architecture, material and light.

“In the project,” explains architect Michael Vincent Uy, “we deliberately shifted the focus from colour to material. The showroom becomes a space for exploring the tactile and luminous dimensions of surfaces: walls, furnishings and volumes function as material fields that react to light and shape the atmosphere of the space.”

With “The Light Between”, Novacolor consolidates its identity as a brand capable of transcending the product to offer a sensory and cultural experience. Light becomes the medium through which the space reveals and constructs itself, transforming the showroom into a place of observation and interpretation where the material takes shape only when the gaze passes over it.
