History and contemporaneity, stillness and dynamism, Michael Vincent Uy reveals in his projects and design an incredible harmony and ability to bring contrasting elements into dialogue. These are the elements that run through his design style, which is characterised by refined details, unique suggestions from the East intertwined with the savoir-faire of Western design. His training and later design experience embraces architecture, design and fashion, elements that can be found in the attention to detail and tailor-made solutions of his creations.
Michael Vincent Uy presents two new products at the Milan Design Week 2024 that excellently represent the designer’s style and background, that desire to generate contemporaneity, to combine contrasting elements in linear forms that tend to become timeless.
Ventaglio – Gessi
Ventaglio is the new collection of taps designed for Gessi that is characterised by elements that indicate a progressive opening, just like the object from which it takes its name, whose elegance, refinement and timeless charm with an oriental flavour it also recalls.
An element of aesthetic grace, representative of a language rich in meaning, the fan thus becomes an expression of refined design, with shaped, almost aerodynamic forms, in a play of contrast between soft surfaces and slender features, in a continuous change enhanced by reflections of light and shadow in an unparalleled chiaroscuro effect.
Flute – Olivari
Michael Vincent Uy designs Flute, one of the five new handles presented by Olivari at the Salone del Mobile 2024. Flute embodies an interplay of contrasts that the designer manages to bring into harmonious dialogue: the handle features flat and tapered surfaces, sleek and elegant lines, and curved and ergonomic profiles. The result is an object that at first glance is simple and linear, yet conceals great complexity. Flute succeeds in combining classicism and modernity, static and dynamic in a proportionate and harmonious balance.
