Light for well-being and care: PIL in the María Auxiliadora nursing home project

PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING has recently collaborated in the design of the Virgen María Auxiliadora residence, the most innovative and modern elderly care centre in the province of Granada. The facility bases its activities on the principles of comprehensive care centred on the individual, with the aim of making the elderly feel comfortable in order to increase their quality of life. Personalised care is therefore the main reason for the residence offering the highest quality of care.

This is why the residence is a combination of modern and sustainable facilities that, in addition to aspects of functionality and accessibility, are characterised by the care of aesthetics and details that help make people feel at home. Correct lighting contributes greatly to the well-being of the guests. For this reason, BIG Architectural Lighting, which was responsible for the lighting design, relied on the high efficiency and reliability of PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING products that are installed in the various rooms.

For the interior rooms, diffuse lighting has been designed according to precise standards for visual comfort, thanks to the use of FL ROUND 333 AB and FL ROUND 555 AB circular ceiling luminaires. Various wall-mounted luminaires such as DROP 22, MIMIK 20, MULTI+ 30 PC, QUASAR 20 and QUASAR 30 are installed throughout the building, depending on the application context. For exteriors, on the other hand, wall-mounted INSERT+ 1 and INSERT+ 2 recessed luminaires illuminate and secure walkways around the building in order to avoid accidents and reduce the possibility of tripping.

Overall, the spaces are equipped with every architectural comfort, the residence offers accommodation for up to 78 permanent and 20 day-stay guests, and also has an infirmary, a physical rehabilitation room and a gymnasium.Outdoor green areas and recreational areas such as hydrotherapy areas, a solarium and a horticultural area complete the picture.

The technological solutions used serve the user and the optimal management of resources. The latest home automation technologies aid day-to-day management, connect guests with caregivers and help prevent accidents. While sustainability was also pursued in the choice of materials and installations: the air conditioning system, for example, has a radiant, heated ceiling that offers a very high level of comfort and significant energy savings.
