House in Brianza: a contemporary retreat

Nestled in the lush landscape at the gates of Lake Como, Casa in Brianza represents an elegant and discreet dialogue between contemporary architecture and the natural environment. The project, signed by Studio Gerosa, is the work of Andrea and Franco Gerosa and continues a design tradition attentive to materials, light, and sustainable living. Here, the boundary between indoor and outdoor is subtly blurred thanks to an architectural composition based on transparency, lightness, and visual depth.

The villa, developed on a single level, is oriented according to the cardinal directions to enhance the visual connection with the landscape and ensure luminous comfort throughout the seasons. The living area opens towards northeast, framing the Lecco Prealps and overlooking a 10-meter-long travertine infinity pool, in direct dialogue with the perimeter pathways and outdoor surfaces paved with the same material. The sleeping area, on the other hand, is organized along the southwest axis and features rooms arranged sequentially starting from the entrance, conceived as a welcoming vestibule.

The formal identity of the house is defined by the large gabled roof, with a span of 10.50 meters and wide overhangs, reminiscent of the traditional architecture of rural farmhouses (cascine). The roof is not only symbolic but also functional: it offers protection, shade, and guides the building’s relationship with the garden. The horizontal development of the villa is complemented by this expansive, inclined gabled roof with a 10.50-meter span.

The interiors, warm and tactile, reflect the same careful design attention given to the exterior. Exposed wooden ceilings, floors in oak and natural stone, and bespoke furnishings in sage green and pearl gray create a coherent story of welcome, comfort, and quality.

Every element is designed to foster continuity between architecture and nature, enhancing light and views in every room. In a balance between vernacular roots and contemporary aspirations, living becomes a sensory, harmonious, and silent experience, immersed in the landscape that evokes deep spatial refinement.

Studio Gerosa, founded in 1977 by Franco Gerosa and now also led by his son Andrea, is distinguished for its project quality in residential, educational, and industrial architecture. Active in both public and private sectors, the studio combines traditional craftsmanship with innovation, with particular attention to landscape integration and sustainability.
