Francesca Cutini, founder of Milan-based StudioDodici, in collaboration with architect Lara Fabbian, skilfully renovated a 180 m² chalet in the characteristic village of Gribbio.
The protagonist of the project is therefore an old rustic cottage in the Ticino region of Switzerland, a few kilometres from Lugano, which has been given a new life and appearance, respecting the original features – keeping the exterior intact – but with a careful eye on functionality and modernity, combining natural materials such as the Colmef stone of the walls and reclaimed wood planks, with design products and technological and sustainable choices.
Through an interplay of contrasts and harmony between the pre-existing and a new dimension of living, the project emphasises the harmonious interaction between architecture, interior design and landscape. A dialogue between nature and construction, which in this project opens up through a series of large French windows and small slits that look out from the interior to the beauty of the surroundings.
This is a sartorial renovation: every detail, carefully designed and studied, was designed by architect Francesca Cutini and the best local craftsmen were involved in its realisation.
Recovered old wooden beams accompany the gaze and unite every space. From the ground floor, where there are two bedrooms, a bathroom, the laundry area, the technical room and the ski room, to the upper floor, dedicated to the large living area with dining room and kitchen, up to the highest floor, which houses the master suite with private bathroom.
In the centre, the heart of the structure: the fireplace, which with its elegant and clean design illuminates and gives character to the living room.
The three floors are connected by a single grand staircase with a minimalist yet scenographic style, thanks to the lightness and refinement of the glass that enhance the beauty and warmth of the wood, the great protagonist of this space.
Nature and Man, Modernity and Tradition meet, giving life to a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere, natural and contemporary: essential lines, echoing the materials and colours of the surrounding environment, combined with modern, substantial and sustainable details.
