Architecture as a reflection of the mediterranean landscape

Nestled within the coastal pine forest of Roccamare, near Castiglione della Pescaia, Villa Roccamare exemplifies refined residential architecture that bestows a profound sense of continuity with nature. Signed by NEATSTUDIO, the project originated from the restoration of two 1960s volumes, reinterpreted in a contemporary key with great respect for the environmental context of the Tuscan Maremma.

The intervention is characterized by a linear, horizontal gesture that measuredly and powerfully relates architecture to landscape. The two existing building volumes were realigned and brought to the same level to create a new unified organism overlooking a large swimming pool lined with Pietra Piasentina, a material chosen for its naturalness and ability to blend with the tones of the Mediterranean shrubland.

The formal simplicity of the architecture—resulting from careful design and construction research—is also reflected in the interiors, where a color palette dominated by green and blue evokes the marine and woodland atmospheres of the area. The use of local and natural materials such as wood and glazed lava stone helps create warm, welcoming environments consistent with the territorial identity.

A key element of the project is the direct relationship with the surrounding environment, emphasized by wide openings toward the sea front that allow light, scents, and breezes from the coast to enter. The architecture does not impose itself on the landscape but interprets and amplifies it, becoming a discreet framing of a way of living that favors sensory well-being and the continuity between inside and outside.

To underscore the deep connection with the place is the presence of a centuries-old olive tree, located in the inner courtyard of the first building: a living symbol of the Maremma landscape, which becomes a symbolic and spatial center of the house—an anchor between memory, nature, and everyday life. Villa Roccamare results from a design approach that combines aesthetic sensitivity with technical rigor, grounded in the principle of intentional simplicity. Every detail and finish tells a story of respect for the site, seeking measure and balance between architecture and life.

Founded in 2016 in Florence by Giorgio Cerrai, NEATSTUDIO is known for an approach attentive to space quality and its relationship with the context. Specializing in new constructions and the restoration of residential buildings, the studio develops each project in an integrated manner, also focusing on furnishings, construction details, and lighting. With the steady contribution of Debora De Carlo and Francesca Pepe, the studio has progressively expanded its scope while maintaining a harmonious and measured vision of architecture.
