All Woods Except the Tree by Saviola

Tutti i Legni Tranne l’Albero (All Wood Except the Tree) is the installation that CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota designed for Saviola’s participation in the Salone del Mobile 2024. This collaboration renews the success of “Wood You Believe?”, the installation – designed with CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota and presented at the Salone del Mobile 2023 – which aimed to show the enormous amount of waste produced by the furniture industry and the entire process of wood waste transformation.
Tutti i Legni Tranne l’Albero, on the other hand, was conceived with the aim of demonstrating the versatility, stability and properties of regenerated wood thanks to advanced technology and the quality of Made in Italy design and production. Each component, each ‘petal’, that makes up the installation was made from Ecological Panel® and contributes to designing a shape based on the interlocking system. The more than 100 panels act as concentric pillars, each one becoming a structural element that helps to keep the entire structure in balance and to demonstrate all the facets of Saviola’s extensive catalogue.

The installation is inspired by the ‘Artichokes’ lamp, a true international design icon designed in 1958 by Louis Poulsen for the innovative Copenhagen restaurant ‘Langelinie Pavillonen’. The double-sided wooden petals offer a contrast between interior and exterior, where on the outside the finish is solid colour, and on the inside, a refined finish inspired by metals, stones and woods has been chosen.
In this way, the installation conveys the varied expression of the Saviola world: a glare-free place that welcomes the human dimension, with a relaxed atmosphere that enhances the senses of sight and touch. Each panel is potentially ready to be used in any kind of architectural project. From the design of furniture and kitchens, to the cladding of vertical surfaces with the possibility of choosing fire-retardant and water-repellent substrates.
The experience within the installation was even more enveloping for the viewer thanks to the large light bulb that revealed the textures and colours of the Collection on display to be touched as well.
