In the heart of Milan, in a strategic location in the Porta Nuova district, Oracle – an American multinational technology and cloud company – has settled in the complex of three connected but distinct volumes called ED.G.E. – Edifici Garibaldi Executive designed by General Planning with Onsitestudio.
The large interior spaces were conceived by DEGW, a leader in the workplace sector with its consultancy & design services, with the collaboration of other Lombardini22 business units: Atmos, FUD, L22 Engineering & Sustainability, and Artlane.
DEGW’s workplace project enhances the particular layout of the building: the decomposition of the single, continuous volume of the existing building into three different bodies has created a ‘building of buildings’.
Polyphonic, dynamic and multifaceted, each of these three elements is characterised by a specific height and its own façade, which features a mix of horizontal and vertical elements of different depths.
Innovation, result orientation and welcoming/inclusiveness are the values that guided the design of the new company headquarters and that have, then, found application and configuration in the multifunctional, creative, inclusive and sophisticated spaces. The entrance to the offices is on the ground floor of the Tocqueville block, where there is a dedicated reception area for the exclusive use of Oracle: a spacious environment, characterised by its 6-metre height and the widespread presence of greenery.
The offices can also be accessed from the condominium reception in the D’Azeglio block. The interiors together compose a Milanese tale. Each floor, in fact, is a homage to Milan, a city waiting to be discovered, with surprising and unexpected places.
Floor 0 Milanese women: Milan is the women who have made small and big changes. Each room is a tribute to one of them: Franca Valeri, Carla Fracci and Alda Merini.
Floor 1 – Nature / Secret Garden: Milan is secret gardens, courtyards, cloisters and period buildings.
Floor 2 – Shapes / Italian Design: Milan is design, ingenuity and creativity from the Castiglioni brothers to Bruno Munari. The meeting rooms are a tribute to some of the most famous pieces of Italian design, including: Eclisse, Mezzadro, Pratone, Tolomeo, Arco.
Floor 3 – Colour / Giallo Milano: A tribute to the history of the city: many historic buildings, whether the 18th-century mansions in the city centre or the characteristic “ringhiera” houses, are in “giallo Maria Teresa”, and so the rooms take on the names of the city’s most representative districts such as Brera, Isola, Navigli.
Floor 4 – Music / Milan Symphonies: Milan is home to La Scala and some of the world’s leading orchestras. Verdi, after whom the Milan Conservatory is named, lived here. And so the piano halls are named after operas such as Rigoletto, Otello, Aida, Nabucco.
Each different connotation is declined by FUD, Lombardini22’s business unit dedicated to graphics and physical branding, through surprising inventions and timely solutions that, with colour palettes, textures and abstract illustrations, enhance the vast repertoire of Oracle’s “brand book”, while emphasising the Milanese nature of the project.
