Eszter Radnóczy, founder of the architecture and interior design studio este’r partners, has designed the new Zazie Bistro&Bar, located on the ground floor of the MOL Campus, Budapest’s first skyscraper and, at the same time, the tallest building in Hungary, by the London-based studio Foster + Partners.
Located along the banks of the Danube, in the young BudaPart district, Zazie Bistro&Bar is a café in the morning, a bistro during the day, a lounge bar in the evening. This fluidity of its spaces is also influenced by the flow of the river, which can be glimpsed through the glass surface of the building in which it is housed.
In fact, the idea behind the project was to combine the contemporary and urban attitude of the MOL Campus with the natural elements that alternate with former industrial buildings in the context.
The design choices emerge clearly from the words of Eszter Radnóczy, interior designer and principal designer: “When we designed the interior of the restaurant, we were inspired by rowing on the Danube: the river flowing beneath you with a relaxing slowness, the crossing of a reed bed, the soft movements of the body, the trees on the banks dancing in the wind. We wanted to translate all this into the language of design with a space that gives a sense of calm and comfort, but at the same time invigorates, depending on the time of day you arrive“.
Nature enters forcefully through the large windows of the MOL Campus and makes its way into all the bistro spaces: one can literally embrace a (real) tree in the cafeteria area, just as one can relax – or work – in the comfortable lounge area, which evokes a succession of small bays with comfortable sofas, wicker lamps, colours and natural materials.
Each table has been designed to offer a different experience and there is also a dedicated area for exclusive events, elevated and secluded, where privacy is guaranteed, as is the panoramic view, spectacular from every point of the Zazie Bistro&Bar.
