At the heart of the system is the retractable canopy with dual degrees of freedom, which allows for the modulation of light and natural ventilation beneath the structure. The aluminium slats can be adjusted from 0° to 85°: when fully closed, they provide shade and protection from the elements; when tilted, they allow light and air to filter through as desired; when retracted, they allow the canopy to be opened fully, enabling you to enjoy the space under the open sky. This dynamism is made possible by the patented Velvet Motion technology, which independently coordinates the rotation and retraction movements of the slats thanks to a linear motor and a dedicated gear motor. The result is a precise, reliable system capable of adapting to a variety of weather conditions. Velvet Plus can be installed as a freestanding unit or mounted against the building, either at the front or side, and features a powder-coated aluminium frame available in 31 colours.
Its modular design also allows multiple modules to be combined to create bespoke configurations that harmonise with the architecture and landscape. Customisation options also include blackout or filtering fabric screens, integrated lighting systems – with LED spotlights in the slats or gutter and RGB LED strips for dramatic effects – as well as optional extras such as infrared heaters, Bluetooth audio systems and glazed enclosures. Control can also be managed via the Gibus Connect app, which allows the pergola’s functions to be controlled remotely.
