Located in Glion-sur-Montreux, the historic Valmont Clinic, founded in 1905 by Dr. Henri Auguste Widmer, has undergone an extensive redesign and renovation led by Gascón Group. The project’s aim was to transform the perception of rehabilitation, moving beyond the cold aesthetic of traditional healthcare facilities to embrace the refined atmosphere of a five-star hotel.
At the heart of the intervention are the suite rooms, spanning a total area of 1,000 square meters. Gascón Group introduced a “cluster” layout model: a system of interconnected modules that allows spaces to be tailored to the needs of patients and their companions. This configuration ensures complete privacy, enabling the creation of private environments of up to 300 square meters.
Each suite is divided into sleeping, living, and dining areas. The design seamlessly integrates medical requirements in an invisible way: for example, the bed headboards conceal technical equipment and oxygen outlets behind elegant wooden panels. The selected materials, from Hungarian-point oak parquet flooring to fine marble tables, combine tactile elegance with the functionality required for daily sanitation.
Natural light is the project’s key architectural element, channeled through large windows that offer uninterrupted views of the lake, promoting physical and mental recovery through a connection with nature. In the evening, lighting becomes softer, with a mix of ambient illumination and adjustable spotlights that create a warm atmosphere. Particular attention has been paid to acoustic comfort, ensured by sound insulation systems between rooms and sliding doors, providing the tranquility essential for rest.
The intervention also involved the common and service areas. The kitchen has been completely redesigned across two levels to become a training hub for chefs of the Swiss Medical Network Group, optimizing logistical flows between staff and guests. The restaurant area stands out for its modern boiserie with vertical inlays and a white marble counter, creating an intimate atmosphere that frames the lakeside landscape.
Finally, the wellness area has been enhanced with a new spa section within the beauty center and a carefully designed layout of the poolside pathways. Here, perimeter lighting has been engineered to avoid disturbing guests in the water, completing a holistic wellness experience in which design becomes, in every sense, a tool for healing.
