Giving new life and form to an example of recent industrial architecture was the remit which led to the creation of the Zomby Blue Live Club. This club near Milan was designed as a place in which good food and drink, entertainment and music come together to create a New York-style setting in the tradition of the most famous Broadway theatres and jazz clubs.
Through exploiting the contrast between light and dark and using curtains and furnishings, the interior design project curated by Fabio Gianoli for BMItalia was aimed at softening the building’s industrial look while leaving the structure’s original soul untouched, maintaining the original finishes and inserting new shapes and elements within them. The result is a restaurant on the ground floor, a large gallery with cocktail bar and private room and a theatre in separate areas, each of which is typified by a specific theme and covering a space of over 1,400 square metres.
Starting from the entrance you first come to the bar area and beer cellar which leads to the dining area with pizzeria and open kitchen/grill. Inside the restaurant guests are greeted by furnishings from the Pedrali collections: in the restaurant on the ground floor Lunar and Arki-Base tables in different materials and sizes are combined with elegant and cheerful pieces such as the Social sofa designed by Patrick Jouin, a modular system designed to host social occasions. The Babila chairs by Odo Fioravanti and the Jazz armchairs, covered in warm velvets in a wide range of colours reflect the mood and atmosphere of the world’s great theatres. The Osaka Metal armchair designed by CMP Design with a plywood ash shell and steel tube legs gives a graphic effect of lightness to the whole environment.
The Buddy poufs by Busetti, Garuti and Redaelli with their soft lines and clean design, and the Babila Comfort armchairs by Odo Fioravanti featuring large upholstered shells, combined with the Malmö coffee tables by CMP Design, create lounge areas designed for both an aperitif or an after-dinner drink. The heart of Zomby Blue is the striking large theatre hall, a modular environment that can be adapted to all types of shows. Here the Ypsilon tables designed by Jorge Pensi and the Volt armchairs by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci allow guests to dine while attending one of the shows from the extensive programme presented either on a raised frontal stage or directly at floor level. At the centre of the gallery there is instead the cocktail bar clad in untreated natural finish iron also furnished by Pedrali while overlooking the lower floor is an exclusive area featuring Social leather sofas in a modern retro style matched with Inox tables.
