Sustainable hospitality in the heart of Rimini

The MODE Eco Mood Hotel has opened in Rimini—an innovative project of sustainable hospitality involving thirteen of Italy’s most prominent architecture studios in the hotel design sector. Conceived by Teamwork Hospitality, the initiative aims to redefine the concept of contemporary hospitality. Developed in the San Giuliano Mare district through the redevelopment of the former Hotel Arlesiana, the new MODE Hotel stands as a model for eco-conscious and experiential hospitality. Each suite has been designed as an independent and sensory experience, expressing the individual vision of eco-responsible design of each participating architect.

Awareness is the keyword of today’s and tomorrow’s tourism.” says Mauro Santinato, President of Teamwork Hospitality and creator of the project. “It means the ability to choose structures and products that respect environmental sustainability. MODE HOTEL aims to be an innovation hub for both design and hotel management.”

The architectural project features nine themed suites, a co-working area, a lobby, and common areas on the ground floor. Every space has been conceived to reflect values of uniqueness, experimentation, and technological innovation.

The exteriors, aptly titled “Green is the new black,” were designed by Rizoma Architetture, who created an energy-efficient envelope equipped with renewable energy systems and high-performance insulation technologies. The lighting design, by Chiara Tabellini of Comfort Hub, enhances the architectural geometries and green areas through a refined use of light, ensuring both energy savings and visual comfort.

The entrance and ground-floor common areas, designed by Laura Verdi, celebrate the second life of materials, featuring elements made of recycled ocean plastic, sound-absorbing felts, and natural coatings. The co-working areas, designed by HUB48 and titled GEA – In the World of Wonders, are inspired by nature and the golden ratio, creating a harmonious and immersive environment.

The nine suites explore diverse expressions of sustainable design: the Garden Suite by Roberta Studio, inspired by biophilic design; Estate Italiana by OTTO Studio, celebrating the lightness of Romagna’s seaside holidays; Onirica by Lombardini22, evoking Fellini’s dreamlike imagination; Greenside by the ne[s]t, blending bio-design and parametric algorithms; Mare 3.0 by GLA Genius Loci Architettura, reinterpreting the circular economy of the sea; Sensi by ovre.design®, inviting guests on an inner journey through the five senses; Silenzio Sfrenato by NOA, redefining luxury as essentiality; Mini’mor by Alessia Galimberti & Partners, exploring the relationship between art and sustainability; and finally SUITE** by Emanuele Svetti of Svetti Architecture, the first virtual suite in Italy.
