Within the compact urban fabric of Milan, the Sonder Building positions itself as an intervention defined by subtraction and precision, establishing a carefully calibrated balance. Designed by Angus Fiori architects, the project stands out for its attentive exploration of the relationship between envelope and interior space, where the façade is not merely a skin but an active device for climatic and visual mediation.
The building is structured by a rigorous compositional grid that organizes openings and solids according to a controlled rhythm. The façade, articulated through a modular pattern, expresses a clear intent toward order, engaging with the Milanese urban context without mimicking it, instead reinterpreting its codes through a contemporary language. Openings become elements of depth, capable of generating intermediate thresholds between inside and outside.
Internally, the layout prioritizes flexibility and the quality of living space. Natural light plays a central role, filtered and modulated through the openings, helping to define environments that shift throughout the day. Interior design is closely tied to the logic of the envelope, establishing continuity between structure, material, and perception.
Particular attention is given to materiality: surfaces and details are conceived to convey a tactile dimension and long-term durability. The project avoids iconic or overly expressive solutions, opting instead for a restrained, almost silent grammar that entrusts its architectural value to construction precision and execution quality.
In this sense, the Sonder Building represents an example of architecture that establishes a measured dialogue with its context while proposing a contemporary and balanced housing model.
