Moby Townhouse and Spazio Moby by mzc+

In the historic centre of Treviso, along the ancient route of Via Ungaresca, a building layered over time returns as an ակտիվ component of the contemporary city. The Moby Townhouse and Spazio Moby project by mzc+ takes shape as a redevelopment intervention that gives back to the community a hybrid space dedicated to both living and culture.

The project unfolds through a logic of critical continuity, where preservation and transformation operate in balance. The load-bearing structures, floor slabs, and original roof are retained and enhanced, while contemporary interventions are introduced as clearly legible layers, capable of engaging with the existing fabric without resorting to mimicry. The architecture is thus constructed through a process of stratification.

Inside, the new spatial configuration redefines relationships between levels through fluid sequences and calibrated perspectives that frame urban views, re-establishing a constant dialogue with the historic city. Natural light, materials, and colour palettes work together to create an environment that is both essential and layered, where spatial perception is continuously modulated.

Central to the process is the role of the construction site, understood not as a purely executive phase but as a true design laboratory. Here, the project evolves, is tested, and refined, embracing variations and adjustments that enrich its complexity. Within this perspective, the intervention engages with the broader discourse on the regeneration of Italy’s historic fabric, where stratification is not a constraint but a design resource. The project thus treats memory as an operative device, capable of activating new spatial and cultural narratives.
