Marcello Ziliani for Vermobil

Vermobil returns to the Salone del Mobile in Milan 2025 to present its new furniture collections signed by two protagonists of international design: Patrick Norguet and Marcello Ziliani / Studio Zetass.

With a completely renewed stand, the Umbrian company confirms its growth as a reference point in the outdoor furniture and outdoor contract sector, distinguishing itself as an authoritative interpreter of Made in Italy outdoor design.

Marcello ZilianiStudio Zetass – debuts with Nina and Voléè, two collections perfect for the residential and contract world.
Nina is a stackable armchair, with or without armrests, designed for bars, outdoor venues, poolside, terraces and urban spaces. It has a galvanised steel frame and recycled polypropylene shell, available in a range of modern and vibrant colours. Comfortable, lightweight, and sustainable, it optimises space when not in use.

I had recently started collaborating with Vermobil as a designer and from the beginning I was intrigued by the fact that they had moulds in house to generate the seat and backrest, which they were actually throwing away because the made – which had aged – could no longer be used for a contemporary market. I objected and asked them to give me time and the chance to work on it, because sustainability is the durability of a product“.

The designer continues with the story of the realisation of the product: We tried to rediscover the native shapes of the mould, the original piece, using these rectangular tube profiles in order to create a formal and also obviously chromatic continuity, because the primer of the material is exactly matched to the powder coating of the metal structure. It is a very cheap object, which many would call democratic, and at the same time extremely comfortable“.

Voléè was born from the idea of re-proposing the classic comfortable multi-position chair with a high back, in a modern and technological version, with state-of-the-art finishes, materials, colours and comfort. Volee is a stackable multi-position armchair with a three-position adjustable backrest and herringbone woven Olyna strips.

Volee was a challenge“, says the designer, because I was asked to tackle a typology that I would consider desuetude, or at least relegated today to low-end worlds, despite the fact that the multi-position has enjoyed great fortune in the past. The challenge we tried to tackle, therefore, is to create a product that is much more contemporary and that is positioned in a range with a very high perceived value, but not an unattainable price. The goal, from my point of view, was to make an object that was comfortable, stackable and functional“.

The reclining backrest allows the user to choose between an upright, semi-reclining and fully reclined (almost lounger-like) position, offering maximum comfort for both conversation and relaxation. The herringbone weave is not only aesthetic and modern but also ergonomic, as it distributes weight evenly, enhancing seating comfort. Ideal for hotels, spas and resorts.

On this subject, Marcello Ziliani comments: For the backrest, we developed this system of weaving a thick ribbon, which would allow us to create something more opaque, less transparent and, at the same time, easier to weave. This particular operation – made entirely in Italy – requires fewer steps than a traditional weave and makes it totally disassemblable after use“.
