Hono, the lamp designed by Mandalaki studio for Luceplan, is the result of a combination of technical research and aesthetic sensitivity. Its name, which means ‘flame’ in Japanese, encapsulates the intention behind the project: to evoke the warmth of a traditional lantern through a contemporary, light and minimalist language. The floor version is defined by a slender metal structure consisting of a cylindrical base and a very thin stem that houses an LED light source capable of distributing light at 360 degrees. This rigorous body is paired with an ethereal diffuser made of 100% cotton paper, tall and slender, whose texture is revealed when light passes through it, creating a soft and enveloping atmosphere. The choice of material, in addition to enhancing the formal purity, allows the lamp to maintain a surprising lightness, consistent with Mandalaki’s minimalist approach.
Hono seems to float in space, a luminous presence reminiscent of a suspended lantern. Its poetics are expressed in a complete family, which includes ceiling and table versions, both characterised by the same aesthetic consistency and technical care: reduced bases, diffusers with essential geometry and a visual language that remains faithful to the original interpretation of light. The collection is further expanded with two new pendant lamps, one horizontal and one vertical, the latter of which can also be installed on a track thanks to a practical adapter. All variants share a compact and versatile design, capable of adapting naturally to domestic and contract contexts. Hono thus becomes a family of lamps that celebrates the delicacy of light, reinterpreting the archetype of the Japanese lantern in a contemporary key and transforming it into an object of pure luminous elegance.
