In the heart of Florence, within the historic Palazzo Stefanelli, the Casa A project by Pierattelli Architetture takes shape as a measured and conscious intervention, capable of weaving the value of the existing fabric with a calibrated and non-invasive contemporary language. A restyling that goes beyond the redefinition of interiors, becoming part of a broader regeneration process of the 19th-century building and restoring it with a renewed residential dimension.
The apartment, spanning 130 square meters, is organized around a generous living area conceived as a central space for interaction and conviviality. The fluid distribution of rooms and large openings promote visual continuity and the permeability of natural light, which becomes an active element in enhancing finishes and architectural details. The project establishes a balance between contemporary comfort and respect for the historic character of the place, without ever forcing the dialogue between old and new.
The restyling forms part of the overall recovery project of Palazzo Stefanelli, located on Borgo Pinti, one of the historic axes of Florence’s city center. The intervention on the entire building has resulted in twelve residential units through a careful restoration that preserves decorated ceilings, original materials, and historic geometries, while integrating technology-driven solutions focused on sustainability, such as heat-pump systems, high-performance windows, and next-generation home automation.
In Casa A, the original frescoed ceilings become the perceptual focal point of the interiors. Geometric and floral motifs emerge as identity-defining elements, engaging in dialogue with carefully selected contemporary design furnishings. In the living area, a marble table by Cappellini interacts with Saarinen Executive Chairs by Knoll, while the Marenco sofa by Arflex, upholstered in rust-colored velvet, introduces a warm tone that balances the overall rigor. Miki armchairs by Lema, a CC Tapis rug, and a scenographic lighting scheme—featuring Nuvola pendants by Baxter and wall lamps by Tooy—complete the composition of the living space.
The kitchen, custom-designed by the studio and produced by Elmar, is characterized by a metallic pink lacquer finish that discreetly integrates into the apartment’s neutral color palette, in dialogue with the parquet flooring and wall surfaces. In the sleeping area, the Biombo bed by Cassina in midnight-blue velvet becomes the central element, flanked by bespoke walnut furnishings designed by the studio.
A defining feature of the project is the wooden staircase designed on an original drawing by the studio: an architectural device that disappears into the bedroom wall and, through an invisible mechanism, rotates 90 degrees to access a mezzanine used as a study. Both technical and poetic, this gesture encapsulates the approach of Pierattelli Architetture—contemporary solutions that respect and enhance the historic character of the spaces.
