Geometry, thresholds and sustainability in the Ferrarese landscape

In a suburban setting near Ferrara, Villa Moderna presents itself as an articulated architectural composition that combines formal rigor, integrated sustainability, and spatial quality. The project, signed by Escape – Integrated Sustainable Design, develops a contemporary vision of living through pure geometric volumes that dialogue with the landscape using neutral colors, coherent materials, and a keen attention to the relationship between architecture and nature.

Spread over three above-ground levels, with a total area of 273 sqm, the villa is composed of intersecting and interpenetrating bodies, creating solids and voids that define a sequence of thresholds spaces, filtering the relationship between interior and exterior. This architectural system is also reflected in the management of natural light, the privacy of the rooms, and the fluidity of open spaces.

At the heart of the house, the internal staircase serves as both a scenographic and organizational element, connecting the ground floor living area—comprising the open-plan living room and kitchen—and the upper floor sleeping area, which includes three bedrooms overlooking a spacious solarium.

The exterior of the villa is designed with equal care: ceramic pedestrian pathways echo the building’s tones; the zen garden suggests new ways of experiencing space; and the infinity pool becomes a natural extension of the built structure, reflecting materials and proportions in a coherent and integrated gesture.

From a technological and environmental perspective, the project prioritizes energy efficiency, integration with green space, and conscious material selection. Every choice aligns with the SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring aesthetic and environmental quality throughout all phases of the project.
