Is there a point of contact between the dynamism of a motor race and the balance of architecture? Daytona, a furniture brand inspired by the famous motor race, seems to have found the answer in a silent but powerful dialogue with the language of Carlo Scarpa. This is demonstrated by the recent photo shoot taken by Beppe Brancato for Daytona in Spazio Scarpa in Vicenza, inside Palazzo Brusarosco, where Daytona’s furnishings find a natural habitat among the architectural details of the illustrious Venetian master.
Between aerodynamics and concreteness, the Daytona design draws inspiration from the fast lines and power of the automotive universe. The furnishings play with sculpted volumes, tapered profiles and proportions that suggest movement while maintaining a solid stage presence. An approach that finds a surprising affinity with the work of Carlo Scarpa, a master in modelling space through rigorous geometries and material details.
In Spazio Scarpa, the architecture is developed in levels, with overlaps, joints and visual paths that enhance the depth of the space. The Daytona furnishings fit into this context with the same volumetric tension, accentuated by the use of raw materials and surfaces worked with an almost sculptural care. The result is a visual dialogue between the taut, sharp lines of the furniture that enhance its depth.
Wood, metal, glass: these are the elements Daytona and Scarpa have in common, both fascinated by the purity of matter. If the great architect enhanced the veining of concrete and the solidity of travertine with clean cuts and refined combinations, Daytona works wood and metal with the same meticulousness, creating contrasts between smooth surfaces and chiselled details.
In the photo shoot in Vicenza, the grazing light passing through Spazio Scarpa amplifies the three-dimensionality of the furnishings, highlighting the play of shadows and reflections, sharp edges and dynamic curves. The result is a fusion of object and environment, past and present, design and architecture. The Daytona experience inside Spazio Scarpa is not just an aesthetic exercise, but an affirmation of identity. The decision to set the furnishings in an architectural context so dense with meaning underlines the brand’s desire to present itself as an interpreter of a design that is not limited to form, but is nourished by a profound study of matter and space.
Just as racing cars cut through the air with precision, the Daytona furniture fits into the architecture with a clear identity, capable of enhancing and being enhanced by the environment that welcomes them. A tribute to the speed, rigour and beauty of design, in which every line, every surface, every material tells a story of tension and harmony.
