Studio Gaetano Riccardelli redesigns in Caserta an attic born from the union of two housing units, transforming a distributive constraint into a spatial narrative that intertwines memory and contemporaneity. The intervention is articulated along three axes of legibility, comfort, materiality to shape an interior that merges the classical measure of living with the technologies of the present.
The entrance is conceived as an immersive threshold, a “box” finished in sage-green enamel that envelops walls and ceiling and introduces the chromatic grammar of the entire project. Walnut wood, whites, golds, and creams intertwine over a Hungarian herringbone parquet that becomes a connective fabric, on which the main episodes of the living area unfold. From the Corcovado marble table to the fireplace combining glass, wood, and Piasentina stone, every element engages in dialogue with technology without ever sacrificing harmony. A cream-colored boiserie conceals functions and volumes, restoring order and continuity to the walls.
The project takes shape from the intertwining of two dwellings – a small studio and a three-room apartment – stitched together to host three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living area connected to the kitchen. The kitchen itself is placed in a subtle balance between autonomy and relation. Separated by a glazed partition with a peninsula, it preserves transparency and depth of perspective. A backlit wooden panel and a hidden laundry reinforce the project’s guiding logic: integrate without displaying, liberate space for daily life.
The threshold to the night area is a silent passage, where a flush door, almost invisible, leads to intimate spaces. In the bathroom, natural stone encounters floral wallpaper and brushed brass, while a roof window floods the space with zenithal light. The master bedroom is configured as a refuge: an en suite bathroom and a deep-blue vestibule that conceals a bespoke wardrobe define a contained microcosm.
Finally, as a generous gesture, the setback of the perimeter wall in the living room allowed the creation of a small terrace equipped with a dining table and barbecue. An outdoor room that extends domestic life, projecting it toward the city and weaving a continuous dialogue between inside and outside.
