The architecture firm lamatilde designed the Flexible Exhibition project for Casa FIAT, which is an exhibition space located in the foyer of the Pinacoteca Agnelli. Through images, objects, and documents from the FIAT archives, it constructs an essential chronicle of the automotive company, highlighting its strong connection to Italian society and emphasizing the changes it has instigated over the course of more than a century.
The project, presented by Stellantis under the curatorship of the Pinacoteca Agnelli, is conceived as a flexible and interactive exhibition pathway that respects the architectural context and embodies the principles of spaciousness and spatial precision characteristic of the original design by Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
The space is designed to allow for various layouts depending on the functional needs of the Pinacoteca. The mobile exhibition modules and concealed drawers facilitate the arrangement of two main configurations: one open, dedicated to the museum function, and one closed, reserved for events, in which the modules are stored within the walls and hidden by curtains, thus leaving the space open and neutral.
The intervention is distinguished by formal choices that serve the exhibition: simple and technical surfaces, furnishings that maintain a material continuity with the original oak flooring, stainless steel details, and extensive use of glass. The transparencies and reflections of the glass, integrating with the central perspectives and open views, enhance and reaffirm the deep relationship with the outside that characterizes the entire envelope.
