Casa DLS

A two-storey detached house with a basement, simple lines and authentic materials define the space of this architecture designed by Galeotti/Rizzato Architetti for a family.
The house stands on a single, small lot that generated the new volume. The lot is located in an area that underwent a profound transformation in the 1970s, from countryside to a dense residential area. On this lot there was a house built exactly in those years, which no longer possessed the characteristics to accommodate this new family and also brought with it problems that could only be solved by its total demolition.

The design of this new house is based on a simple but effective idea, its floor plan is square and the cross-shaped principle allowed the studio to distribute spaces and functions. Concrete plays a central role in the project: it is both a load-bearing element and an ordering element and becomes the setting for everyday life inside the house. It clearly divides the living area, empties itself where necessary to create transitions between one area and the other areas of the house and dynamically accommodates different devices from time to time.
This identity has also been reproduced on the outside, with a projecting roof and a dividing wall that work together to define an outdoor space surrounded by the garden.

The project develops the living area on the ground floor with an entrance from the street, which is defined by a black void where the entrance hall is inserted. From the entrance there is access to a corridor that leads to the living area characterised by a double height and large windows overlooking the garden. On this floor are the kitchen, the living room, a bathroom and ancillary rooms.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. The wide corridor has a glass parapet from where one can overlook the double height open space on the lower floor of the house.
The basement houses the heating plant, a bathroom and a room with a kitchen that overlooks a cavedium that enjoys excellent exposure, making the basement room bright and welcoming.
