Between history and contemporary design

Inside a Renaissance palazzo overlooking Piazza Santa Trinità, the 130 sqm apartment designed by Andrea Serdino and Margherita Serdino is conceived as a domestic platform capable of orchestrating historical memory and contemporary languages within a single coherent system. The project interprets the home as a layered domestic infrastructure, where classical elements and modern insertions coexist within a precise and carefully calibrated spatial matrix.

The intervention is grafted onto the original structure of the Renaissance building, preserving its layout while enhancing its architectural components through a warm palette ranging from pink to powder blue. This chromatic system is not decorative but organizational: it defines hierarchies, thresholds, and atmospheres, transforming color into a tool for spatial orientation and identity.

The entrance immediately introduces the theme of the domestic narrative platform. A painting by artist Francesca Guicciardini welcomes and guides the gaze, while a custom – designed bookcase by the architects acts as a filtering device between the entrance and the kitchen. This hybrid element – simultaneously furniture and architecture—organizes the functional sequence without interrupting visual continuity, establishing a fluid threshold between operational and representational areas.

The kitchen, designed ad hoc and crafted by Homewood artisans, is configured as the operational node of the domestic platform. Chromatic continuity with the floor is interrupted by the vibrant yellow of the table and stools, an accent that activates the space and emphasizes its convivial dimension. The fixed opaque glass partition introduces an additional layer: a visual filter that both separates and connects the kitchen and living room, establishing a balance between openness and introspection.

In the living room, the domestic platform unfolds through a calibrated dialogue between classical systems and contemporary objects. The custom-designed boiserie and cabinetry constitute the main infrastructure of the space, integrating storage and representation.

The sleeping area is organized through a complementary chromatic system. Soft pink characterizes the children’s bedroom, where wallpaper, textiles, and bespoke furnishings create a playful yet controlled environment. The master bedroom, defined by powder blue tones, becomes the fil rouge of the entire apartment: integrated boiserie and custom wardrobes establish architectural continuity with the baroque bed upholstered in blue fabric, while the decorative screen painted by Guicciardini echoes the motifs of the entrance, reinforcing the narrative coherence of the home.
