Balcoon is the new Duravit collection by designer Patricia Urquiola that combines modernity, timeless elegance and a strong, recognisable visual identity. With its pure forms and sophisticated materials, the line represents a new benchmark in the mid-market segment thanks to an unprecedented balance between signature design and accessibility.
Balcoon is distinguished by a minimalist aesthetic with a strong character: clean, geometric lines, playful volumes and overlapping materials come together in a refined formal language. ‘The design plays with unevenness, protrusions and overlaps, hence the name Balcoon,’ explains the designer. The washbasins take on a sculptural role within the space: round or oval shapes are grafted onto square bases, creating an interesting two level game that runs through the entire collection, from the sanitary ware to the furniture and the bathtubs. A distinctive feature of the Balcoon line is the console with integrated back wall, which creates a visual and spatial connection with the storage units below.
The furniture plays with an alternation of drawers and open compartments arranged asymmetrically, accentuating the dynamism of the whole. Fluted fronts and textured surfaces add depth and character, while consoles in mineral material – available in three colour variants – complete the design with touches of refined simplicity. For the ceramic pieces in Balcoon, Patricia Urquiola has created a terracotta shade that emphasises their tactile and material properties. ‘Clay Terra opaque’ is the central colour of the new collection. A shade that makes the ceramic even more authentic and as if it were handmade,’ says the designer. With Balcoon, Patricia Urquiola reinterprets the contemporary bathroom with an original and inclusive look, where form, function and sustainability meet in a harmonious and innovative dialogue.
