From 20 to 25 June 2025, the historic setting of the Acquario Romano welcomes Abitzai with its new Origini collection, on the occasion of the FAR – Festival of Architecture in Rome, now in its seventh edition and promoted by the Order of Architects of Rome and its province. The premium brand of Mediterranean Ceramics, born in 2021, returns to distinguish itself with a project that combines aesthetics, culture and sustainability, confirming its vocation to tell the story of the Mediterranean through ceramic material.
The Origini collection, articulated in the Areale and Tibula lines, is much more than a decorative proposal: it is a symbolic journey, starting from ancestral signs and primordial languages to generate new forms of expression. In two exhibitions – one indoor and one outdoor – visitors can immerse themselves in a visual journey that transforms ceramics into narrative. In particular, the outdoor installation “Terra&Radici”, set up among the ancient Servian Walls dating back to the 4th century B.C., becomes a true design manifesto: a ceramic landscape made of zero-kilometre porcelain stoneware, made of volumes, variable heights and geometries that evoke the stratification of memory and the deep connection with the territory.
‘We started from the roots of Mediterranean culture and its ancient languages, decoding them in an alphabet that recalls the authenticity and adherence of the company to its land,’ says Claudia Mazohl, founder of the brand. ‘Our ceramics are born from the Mediterranean earth, which becomes living matter, rich in meaning and capable of evoking an almost tangible regenerative power.’
Origini is both story and substance: a celebration of the Mediterranean that translates into fine surfaces. Areale and Tibula move in a balance between suggestion and memory: the former is distinguished by a fluid weave of symbols that oscillate between reality and vision, while the latter recalls the ancient Sardinian city, a place of exchange and cultural contamination. The decorations, obtained through a sophisticated mix of coloured enamels and precious metals, transform each plate into a work in which tradition meets innovation. The colours – ranging from warm neutral to sea green, from terracotta to volcanic black – amplify the depth and expressiveness of the surfaces.
Abitzai confirms itself as an authentic interpreter of the Mediterranean spirit and Italian style, with a strong and deep-rooted identity. Its name, taken from the ancient Sardinian dialect, means “to keep alive, to enliven, to sow”: an intention that is reflected in the refined design collections, faithful to the memory and landscapes of the island. For Abitzai, the Mediterranean is not just a geographical place, but a vision: a crossroads of civilisations, a way of living and thinking. Its ceramics thus become evocative surfaces that tell stories of art, nature and culture through sinuous lines, intense colours and unique island geometries.
Moreover, on Saturday 21 June, the brand will be the protagonist of the talk “Roots, Archetypes, Surfaces” within the Match, Design! cycle, a programme of meetings exploring design as a tool for transforming living. Moderated by Paolo Casicci, creator of the project together with Alessandro Gorla, the dialogue will involve the Tanzi Architecture studio and Claudia Mazohl in a reflection on the origins, values and future visions of Ceramica Mediterranea and the Abitzai brand.
Through Origini, Abitzai reaffirms its vocation to transform material into narrative, territory into value and memory into project. A path that, between tradition and contemporaneity, confirms the power of ceramics to become a cultural vehicle and visual language of today’s Mediterranean.
