A house suspended between architecture and landscape

On the terraced slopes of the Ligurian coast, Casa di P emerges as a refined exercise in architectural and landscape regeneration. Resulting from the collaboration between Marco Ciarlo Associati and Armellino & Poggio Architetti Associati, the project is located in one of the most evocative areas of Torre del Mare, Bergeggi (SV), where Mediterranean vegetation intertwines with panoramic views that embrace Bergeggi Island and Capo Noli.

The starting point is a building from the 1960s, which over time had undergone numerous disorganized interventions lacking architectural quality. The redevelopment project has systematically and thoughtfully redefined the existing volume, restoring its formal dignity and harmony with the surrounding context. The goal was not only to restore compositional coherence to the structure but, above all, to build an empathetic dialogue with the natural environment.

Using a system of columns and metal frames, the designers redefined the visual perception of the building, transforming it into a viewing machine: each frame frames portions of the landscape, captures the light, or filters the vegetation. This system of suspended, lightweight “screens” serves to mitigate the presence of the solid masonry volume, shaping a poetics of subtraction that enhances the place without imposing itself.

The cantilevered pool, positioned centrally and designed as a visual extension of the horizon, is the most spectacular element. Suspended in space, it seems to erase the physical boundaries of the property, opening the view toward the sea. Its strategic placement and linear shape transform it into a contemplative device, where landscape becomes an immersive experience.

The project respects the existing topography and vegetation, discreetly integrating walkways, mineral surfaces, and new plantings. The intervention addresses the theme of the boundary between built and natural environments, between interior and exterior, through an essential yet expressive architectural language capable of combining formal rigor with perceptual lightness.
