Venturoni Studio transforms an apartment with Scandinavian style

Conceived as a true domestic platform, Casa Città Studi is structured around an ordering system capable of coordinating functions, atmospheres, and family identities within a single spatial matrix. The apartment designed by Francesca Venturoni for Venturoni Studio thus takes the form of a flexible domestic infrastructure: a stable framework onto which bespoke furnishings are grafted.

Located within the transforming residential fabric of Milan’s Città Studi district, the intervention retains the original layout, already highly functional, focusing instead on a system of spatial and material layers that refresh the retro Milanese imagery with Scandinavian suggestions. The result is a design grid that operates as an invisible device: an ordering infrastructure capable of slotting objects and functions into place while restoring visual and operational continuity throughout the apartment.

The heart of the project is the custom-designed bench that wraps around the oak table: an architectural element before being a piece of furniture, catalyzing the dynamics of the living area as it becomes a relational platform. Around this fulcrum unfolds a sequence of linear volumes and clean surfaces, animated by metal and glass accents that enhance the perception of lightness and depth.

The color palette moves across warm earthy shades—from yellow to ochre and ferruginous reds—defining a continuous atmospheric field that envelops the bespoke furnishings. In counterpoint, the pastel blue of the kitchen wall units introduces an unexpected note, expressing the clients’ emotional connection to the convivial space. Here, the kitchen is configured as an operational node of the domestic platform: a custom environment designed to support daily rituals and social interaction.

In the living room, the composition is built on balances between linearity and subtle sinuosity. The calibrated use of iconic pieces is not decorative but systemic: each object becomes a node within the domestic platform, contributing to the construction of a coherent narrative.

Decoration is deliberately concentrated at strategic points. Here, the tactile component integrates with the architectural structure, introducing a controlled emotional dimension that does not interrupt the continuity of the spatial system. The project can thus be read as a layered domestic platform: a design matrix capable of accommodating different worlds—cultural, aesthetic, familiar—without renouncing a strong and recognizable identity. The house becomes a sensitive infrastructure, where every element is calibrated to support everyday life with architectural precision and narrative warmth, translating the hybridization between Milan and Northern Europe.
