In the heart of the Mantuan countryside, just outside the Renaissance town of Sabbioneta, SUPERLUNA designs Sirio House, a project that combines the rural memory of the territory with a contemporary architectural language. The studio, founded by Luca Sartori, Marco Bonfatti Paini, and Andrea Romano, reinterprets the theme of the local agricultural house through the use of traditional materials and modern solutions.
The new building, which replaces an existing structure, develops over three levels and harmoniously integrates into the agricultural landscape on a plot of approximately 8,600 square meters. The design preserves the typology of the farmhouse with a compact plan and a sober language but introduces innovative compositional elements: a visible reinforced concrete blade divides the space into two functional areas—living and sleeping zones—and supports a steel staircase that vertically connects all levels, culminating in an evocative rooftop observatory. The existing openings on all four facades have been maintained, except on the south side, where a large glass arch has been inserted, bringing new light and openness to the building.
The interior design favors local and artisanal materials: on the ground floor, a terracotta floor laid in a herringbone pattern recalls the old outdoor threshing floor, creating a continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces. The project concludes with a service volume—garage and barbecue area—that echoes the morphology of the main residence, establishing a dialogue between the different parts of the complex.
Founded in Como in 2017 by Luca Sartori, Marco Bonfatti Paini, and Andrea Romano, SUPERLUNA is a creative studio with a contemporary approach to architecture and design. After professional experiences internationally in Switzerland, England, Germany, Australia, Japan, and Brazil, the three founders established a conceptual studio capable of handling projects at various scales—from restoration to new construction, from objects to masterplans—with a critical and collaborative spirit.
