In the heart of Milan, Casa Oliva by nomade architettura interprets the Italian return of a young cosmopolitan family through a residential project that combines compositional rigor, everyday comfort and sophisticated chromatic and material research. Completed in 2024, the house unfolds across two levels overlooking a private garden, establishing a constant relationship between interior spaces and the domestic landscape.
The clients’ requests were essential yet extremely precise: a contemporary, functional and livable home characterized by a neutral palette enriched with unexpected accents of colour, while maintaining a strong connection with the garden and particular attention to the placement of artworks. Starting from these guidelines, nomade developed a free and deeply customized project built around the balance between architectural essentiality and emotional density.
The apartment is organized across two distinct yet deeply connected floors. The upper level hosts the living area and the main bedrooms, while the ground floor accommodates the guest area, the gym and a cinema room conceived also as a playroom. Both levels establish a direct dialogue with the private garden, amplifying the continuity between indoors and outdoors while introducing a relaxed and luminous domestic atmosphere.
One of the project’s defining aspects is the sartorial control over the interior design. On both floors, nomade designed almost all of the bespoke furniture and doors, later crafted by selected artisans. This approach allowed the studio to maintain complete control over materials, textures and finishes, creating a coherent and highly personalized language.
The material palette revolves around the warm tones of oak and travertine, the true protagonist of the project. To ensure chromatic continuity throughout the different spaces of the house, an entire block of travertine was selected and purchased, then used across furniture pieces and surfaces. The result is a sophisticated yet restrained interior, where natural materiality interacts with clean and rigorous geometries.
Colour emerges more intensely within the two powder rooms, conceived as true “scenographic boxes.” On the upper floor, blue and orange define a vibrant and unexpected environment; on the ground floor, ochre and light blue tones create a softer yet equally immersive atmosphere. In both cases, colour interrupts the house’s overall neutrality, becoming an element of surprise and an emotional device.
