In the heart of Milan, the Alberto Bonacossa Tennis Club, one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious clubs, has recently undergone a redevelopment project that has breathed new life into its fast courts. The project was carried out by an all-Italian partnership between Play It, which specialises in the construction of sports surfaces, and Heidelberg Materials Italia, a leading manufacturer of construction solutions and materials. The project involved four courts – numbers 12, 14, 15 and 16 – which needed to be upgraded to meet the standards of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation following the men’s team’s promotion to Serie A.
Heidelberg Materials made a decisive contribution to the construction of the new sub-base, a key element on which the final quality of the court depends. The company supplied approximately 330 cubic metres of i.pro PAVIMIX®, a performance-designed concrete for flooring subjected to moisture and medium-intensity stress, ensuring superior flatness, compactness and durability. The supply, originating from the Rho plant, was managed by the i.build business unit, which specialises in turnkey flooring installation. The operations took place in a far from conventional setting: a historic sports facility, still in use and subject to restrictions by the Superintendency, where strict safety and architectural heritage protection protocols had to be followed.
‘The Bonacossa project was a complex but extremely stimulating challenge,’ explains Andrea Cervato, Head of Territorial Activities at Heidelberg Materials. ‘We operated in special conditions, where precision and coordination with the club were essential. The result is a sub-base that fully meets the standards required for high-level competitions.’ The collaboration between the two companies has demonstrated the effectiveness of an integrated approach, capable of offering the world of sport complete and replicable solutions: a unique system, in which the quality of the concrete and the reliability of the playing surface combine to guarantee high performance and long life.
