Galleria Alberto Sordi: a benchmark in sustainability

In the heart of Rome, a historic shopping landmark has been transformed into a model of sustainability: Galleria Alberto Sordi of Prelios SGR has achieved BREEAM In-Use certification thanks to the strategic contribution of OGB STUDIO. This internationally recognized certification rewards operational buildings that stand out for their high energy efficiency and best management practices, laying the foundation for a future where retail and sustainability seamlessly integrate.

OGB STUDIO, a key player in this innovation process, supported Prelios SGR, manager of the Fondo Megas of Fondazione Enasarco, in achieving a milestone that perfectly balances the enhancement of historical heritage with the implementation of green strategies. The main challenge? Transforming an architectural icon into a benchmark for sustainability in retail without compromising its aesthetic and symbolic value.

“The enhancement of a historic building like Galleria Alberto Sordi is a tangible example of Prelios SGR’s commitment and focus on sustainable and innovative real estate management. This project, inspired by the highest principles of sustainability, has successfully balanced environmental impact, energy performance, maximum space comfort, and integration with the urban context, pursuing an ambitious goal for a historic, listed, and structurally complex building,” stated Nicola Sajeva, Director Asset & Development Management at Prelios SGR.

OGB STUDIO’s approach to the redevelopment of Galleria Alberto Sordi was based on a broad, multidisciplinary vision that goes beyond merely reducing environmental impact. Their strategy encompassed optimizing energy management, improving occupant well-being, and implementing advanced technological solutions.

OGB STUDIO’s commitment extended beyond the application of cutting-edge technologies; it also involved redefining a new paradigm for historic commercial buildings. “BREEAM In-Use certification is much more than a milestone; it is a concrete commitment to a sustainable future in which even listed buildings can align with decarbonization goals without losing their identity,” says Laura Scrimieri, Co-CEO and Founding Partner of OGB STUDIO.

The case of Galleria Alberto Sordi demonstrates how architectural preservation can be harmonized with energy efficiency and environmental comfort. A tangible example of how Rome, through projects like this, can position itself at the forefront of the sustainability debate applied to historic commercial spaces.
